It was now almost 6 months since Rarity had begun her contract with Twilight Sparkle, a sophomore at Equestria’s Lyceum of Magic & Science, as a temporary magical familiar. My what an odd request to make, to summon her just to have as she said ‘More than enough time work on the research paper to blow that hard feather Professor Granite Stable out of the air!’ and with Twilight being better safe than sorry she chose the longest terms for temporary familiars.
So a year and a day Rarity was stuck here in this quaint, but old, cottage on campus or until the request was fulfilled, after Twilight would receive her final grade on the paper. Many times by now Rarity had asked why hadn’t she just summoned an elemental or any of the other hundreds of lower level beings, but over and over Twilight demonstrated her strive for perfection. And as Rarity would admit, she was perfection.
As the time passed quickly a friendship blossomed between them, not to the surprise of Rarity obviously, she could make friends with anybody! Even a bookwyrm could not withstand her charms for long.
But what did surprise Rarity was how close she had become towards the lavender unicorn, yes she was muzzle first in a book all the time but when you managed to remove the book Twilight was a genuine mare with her feelings and would listen oh so intently. Even when Rarity would speak of her favorite boutique Twilight would give her full attention, she treated Rarity like a normal pony.
That simple fact was sadly a first for the gray mare outside of her normal unicorn alias of Cashmere Kindness, but as Rarity the magical being? The demon as some still said? A pleasant first.
But not the first of many pleasantries they had shared in each others presence. The Canterlot Running of the Leaves only weeks after they met, Twilight helping her clean the cottage before the cold weather began to worsen, and the beautiful Winter Solstice Night just days ago passed.
That night Rarity had begun to notice. Notice herself, notice Twilight, notice them together, and how jarring it felt when they were apart. And almost, just almost, did she act on those new budding emotions. But Rarity knowing the lines and where to cross them kept her feeling tied with a lavender ribbon and bow, deep in her chest, this was not her first crush or last.
But, it was the first time that she didn’t look forward to the ending of a contract. For once the days were passing all too quickly.
“Rarity! Did you get lost trying to find that book? Do you need some help?” Twilight voice echoed with a touch of a smile from the bottom of the stairs.
Literally shaking the thoughts from her head Rarity came back to the moment. “Apologies darling I became distracted for just a second by one of your other books!” Quickly she grabbed the desired book that was right where Twilight had described.
Rarity and the book enveloped in her ice colored magic trotted out of the bedroom and down the stairs, in the time that had past sunset now gone and left shrouded the living room in darkness only lit by a fresh fire in the hearth.
There at the bottom stood Twilight back-lit by the warm light looking up, a small amused smile on her lips as she watched her descend. Rarity wasn’t sure what captivated her more, the smile, the lighting, or Twilights eyes, staring straight at her. No matter which was the cause at that moment Rarity lost her balance her cloven hoof catching the rug on the second to last stair.
In a blur she fell, eyes closed she was barely able to catch herself from crashing into either the floor or Twilight. A breath, then two, then three, and Rarity opened her eyes. Below her Twilight lay, hooves up that were there to catch Rarity lowered as violet eyes matched the clear blue above. Both were frozen their noses only inches apart as she stood braced above the other mares body.
A blush creeped, then rushed onto both faces but still neither looked away for the long moment that felt like eons, until Twilight eyes half closed looked to the right then back up right to Rarity’s.
“R-rarity?” a breath, a whisper “I-I want you to, ah, k-kiss me..” the blush spread across Twilights face even more so, tinting the tips of her ears and horn.
Rarity breathed in sharply as the fire in the hearth cracked loudly, the only sound in the now quiet home, as snow began to fall outside.
A steamy snip-it from a rarilight demon AU I’m working on. No chapters published yet but I’m working on that and will update when its posted!
